After a week of riding and getting to know the locals in Baqueira, we decided it was time to hit the road, over the mountain pass to Andorra.
The drive was slow, but extremely picturesque. The day was amazingly warm and sunny so we stopped for lunch and a steep hike up the Pyrenees mountains till we reached snow.
It is amazing how the mountains keep going up - we were saying - the top must be near the next tree, the next rock... nearly there.... we only gave up on getting to snow and finding a slight decline before the mountains set off again skyward.
Looking back blow us was a beautiful Spanish ruins. Overhead flew a wedge tailed kite. Absolute magic. I even managed to shed my cloths and get the first dose of vitamin D for a long time! the temperature was the high teens even at almost 1800m!
We then crossed down the winding roads and into Andorra.
Andorra is a small nation wedged between France and Spain, in the middle of the mountains. the main road follows a valley up into mountains, with barely room to expand, the houses are creeping up the mountainsides. Seven years ago I freecamped in my kombi in an area where there is barely room move now, with condo's and ski chalets packed in close.
We managed to score a campsite next to some other vans in the El-Tatar lift carpark. Our little red van not exactly hiding next to the flash white mobile homes - I bet we were cozier though!
Next day we hit the slopes to get our bearings. Ice Ice and more Ice meant that conditions were challenging and more than one stack was had by us both!
